1981

WAMM

Image of WAMM
WAMM Series 1   1981 - 1982
The Wilson Audio Monitor (WAMM) was Dave Wilson’s first commercially available Loudspeaker. Many considered it a statement product, but Dave’s original focus was to find, and ultimately create the ideal audio reference tool that can be tuned and configured to the listening environment. During Dave Wilson’s earlier experiments with creating a movable mechanism to align the modules in the time domain, he kept coming back to this idea--there was a direct correlation between the acoustic center of the driver and knowing where and when the sound from each of the drivers arrived at his listening position. This resulted in a more faithful reproduction of the signal.

1982

WAMM 2

Image of WAMM 2
WAMM Series 2   1982 - 1983
After further experimentation, Dave realized he had discovered a straightforward method to measure the accuracy of loudspeakers within the parameter of the time domain. More importantly, his technique revealed driver misalignments at the position that mattered most—at the listener’s ears. The WAMM was able to adjust to correct misalignments in the most unique fashion. The music became more realistic and beautiful.

1983

WAMM 3A

WAMM Series 3A   1983 - 1987
With advancements in technology and his methods, Dave continued to enhance his beloved loudspeaker and make sure that the drivers, materials, and overall sound quality and time alignment would be improved. These improvements included a replacement of mid-range modules and realignment of the full-range array, an electrostatic module network upgrade, and a main crossover board upgrade.

1986

WATT

Image of WATT
WATT Series 1   1986 - 1989
The WATT (Wilson Audio Tiny Tot) was originally Dave Wilson's portable monitor he created for professional recording use. After experiencing the consequences of having inadequate monitors on-site at a recording session, Dave later recounted the experience: “The recording was completely unacceptable. It was at that point in time that I realized if I was going to continue recording, continue my efforts to capture the actual sound of the live event, I needed a portable monitor that spoke the same language as the WAMM.” Without intending to do so, Dave had designed a product that engendered a strong aspirational desire. While his WAMM demonstrations produced a similar feeling for many listeners, the feasibility of actually purchasing a pair was often well beyond the means of the potential buyer. The WATT was affordable in this context.

1988

WAMM Series 6

Image of WAMM Series 6
WAMM Series 6   1988 - 1991
A major upgrade from the WAMM Series 3A to the WAMM Series 6 included a new midrange that improved the linearity of the loudspeaker. The WAMM Series 6 also implemented the new Wilson Audio built M6 Modules. The cabinetry was constructed primarily of marine grade birch laminate board, imported from Finland as well as ultra high-density ceramic-filled methacrylate polymer.

1989

WHOW

Image of WHOW
WHOW Series 1   1989 - 1991
Sheryl Lee discussed with Dave the idea of re-configuring the WAMM Subwoofer into a lower-profile version such as a coffee table. It was inevitable, that Wilson Audio’s coffee table subwoofer became the WHOW (pronounced “wow”) for Wilson High-Output Woofer. The POW WHOW (Powered Wilson High-Output Woofer) included a powered amplifier (400 watts) on the bottom of the WHOW. The WHOW used the same subwoofer as the WAMM tower to ensure accurate time alignment.

WATT 2
